Week 7 Wrap-up

Sorry for the late post...I was...ummmm...busy (read: lazy) yesterday. I will start this week's post by saying that a win is a win is a win is a win! So, let us remember that we are complaining over a win...

I was at the game this past week, and from inside the stadium, it didn't look nearly as bad as it did on television. As in the Giants game and the Green Bay game, we just completely fell apart in the second half. This offense is really, really bad...and in my opinion, it's all coaching. What is going on with the play calling? Our offensive line is tattered, yet we continue to think that we can ice games by running with a completely inept Clinton Portis and a non-existent Ladell Betts. COME ON!! Throw the damn ball.

Now, I've been complaining all year about this team and some of it's players. But, let's look at the reality (and I'm in no way even sipping the kool-aid here). We are 4-2. I'll repeat...we are 4-2. I think everyone needs to step back and think about that. Last year we were 5-11...5-11. We are not the Patriots or Colts, but we're in the hunt. We are worth mentioning, and I think that is worth noting. For some reason, people in the town are expecting us to go from 5-11 to 14-2 or something...that's not going to happen. So, let's be happy with the fact that we might be better than last year. We've got the makings of a franchise QB in Jason Campbell. Our defense is one of the best in the league again. Our special teams is playing well also. All these things, in my book, spell P-R-O-G-R-E-S-S.

Week 7 Cuts:
- Clinton Portis (taking the top spot because...well, geez...ya'll saw the game)
- Carlos Rodgers (still bad...his mistakes are masked by our stellar safeties...nice INT drop though)
- Brandon Lloyd (no list is complete without him)

Week 7 Props:
- London Fletcher (dude is a stud...I'll overlook the personal foul penalty)
- Andre Carter (he's making our D-line relevant)
- Jason Campbell (please let him throw the ball)

Note: Derek Frost and Shaun are off the list this week because Frost has started shanking punts and Shaun has missed a couple of kicks. They'll probably be back next week.

Week 6 Wrap-up

Sigh...

Why must I die every time the Redskins play? Seriously, I think I'm going to have a massive coronary watching this team play. It's not healthy...and for someone that swears that he's not going to drink the kool-aid, you'd think I can be calmer.

Anyway...so, the Skins lost another heart breaker to the Green Bay Packers, 14-17. This game was marred by the Skins so-called best players playing like they just got off the short, yellow bus. First, I must address Clinton Portis. Is it just me, or is he the most overrated back in the league (I've said this before). So, now...that's 3 games, and 3 costly fumbles. Maybe if this guy actually played in the preseason and participated in training camp, he might have learned to hold on to the football, especially with the game on the line. I'm sick and tired of this guy trying to claim he's on the same level with LT, when the reality is, he's above average at best. If he would just stop trying to be more than he is, I'd be less mad...but, LT wouldn't have fumbled there. LT would turn Portis's 3 hard trip-ups into 7 yard dives. LT would turn Portis's 15-yard scampers into 67-yard TD runs. That's the difference...that's the x-factor.

Now, I certainly understand the situation with the O-line...and that's sad. So, I'm trying not to blame his lack of a 100yd game this year on his inabilities as a running-back. But, at the same time...DON'T PUT THE BALL ON THE GROUND!! Maybe...just maybe...secure the football. Lucky for us that our defense stoned Green Bay on the drive following the Portis fumble, because if that didn't happen, we're probably talking about Portis as the goat, instead of Santana Moss.

My temptation is to give Santana the benefit of the doubt. He's been such a team player...plays hard every week...and has done so much for this team. But, at the same time...He's having a very, very bad year. For some reason, he's forgotten how to catch this year...and finally, it's costing us games. Santana blames himself for the loss, and rightfully so, but really...there were enough mistakes to go around.

How about the clock management? Hmmmm....let's call a timeout before 3rd down so we can set up our strategy for what is obviously a 4-down scenario. Ok...we didn't make it on 3rd down...let's go ahead and run that 4th down play we called during the timeout...what play? HUH?!?!?!?! You called ANOTHER timeout? Are you kidding? What happened to that great clock management and awesome coaching we saw last week? Sigh...back to the same old stuff.

Before I get to my cuts and props, I need to address Redskin Fan...that is, all the skins fanatics that have been calling into radio shows since yesterday evening. SHUT UP! This is why I've been telling you guys not to drink the kool-aid. You guys are acting all surprised every time we lose, and you realize that we're not as good as you think we are. Listen...stop going from one extreme to the other. It's not time to start up the bandwagon after ever win, and it's not time to fire the coach after ever loss. In all honesty, I don't think I've been more pleased with this team since our super years. We have some continuity in the coaching staff, and we finally have a QB that can actually get it done. Things are kind of looking up for this team...we're not going to win a super bowl, and hell...we might lose another 7 games this year like this one, but it's progress...something we haven't seen in years.

Week 6 Cuts:
- Carlos Rodgers (WHY IS THIS GUY STILL IN THE NFL?!?!)
- Clinton Portis (SOOOOOOO overrated!)
- Santana Moss (I have to...he fumbled the game away)
- Brandon Lloyd (So we don't forget that this guy sucks)
- Ladell Betts (Where are you?)

Week 6 Game Balls:
- Jason Campbell (That INT wasn't his fault...shouldn't have even been a pick)
- Derek Frost (no most shanks...me likey!)
- COOOOOOOOOLEY!!! (This dude is a freaking stud!)

I'll be at the Arizona game next Sunday, so I'll let you know how the heart attack feels from the club level of FedEx.

Week 5 Wrap-up

So, here we are...back from the bye week. A much needed rest for most of the Skins players, AND ME. Lord knows I needed a vacation after that guy-wrenching game against the Giants two weeks ago, which saw my Skins stay in the locker room after halftime, and saw me throw things at my television.

Is there anything better for a pick-me-up than playing the Detroit Loins? Let's see...bad loss...terrible taste in your mouth...feeling sick to your stomach...feeling like you might just slip into a 2-9 coma. Well, the symptoms you are describing are called "Bad Team Syndrome", and it's really hard to cure. BUT...we do have something to help you fight the symptoms. This long-standing drug has been around for many years and always makes you feel better...it's called "Playing the Detroit Loins at Home."

In all seriousness, the Lions haven't beaten us in my lifetime, as far as I can remember, and they certainly haven't done it at home. As I watched the 34-3 drubbing of the Lions, I actually had to suck it up and give props to my team. They showed up. Don't worry though, I'm not drinking the kool-aid yet, and I have plenty of stuff to complain about. But first, the good things:

- Our front 4 actually got pressure on the QB without a blitz for the first time this year. It was nice to see...and Andre Carter is playing like a man possessed. He's the only one on the D-line worth a cent, but he's playing his butt off.

- Jason Campbell put together, in my opinion, the best game of his career. He was on target with just about every pass, and moved around well in & out of the pocket. This kid is going to be good, and I'm glad we finally decided to give him the ball for good.

- Antwaan Randle El is playing like a beast!! We all knew he had skills, but finally we're getting him the ball and he's able to do some things once he gets it in his hands. I really hope that hamstring is a minor thing and we will see him out there next week against Green Bay

- CARLOS RODGERS DID SOMETHING!! DID YOU SEE IT?!?! HE DID SOMETHING!! Wow...how shocked was I to see Carlos Rodgers actually break on a ball, catch it, AND run! I'm sure that's only the second time I've seen him catch a ball. I mean, I still think the guy is the worst corner in the league, but at least he did something finally!

- Greg Williams called an amazing game. He did a great job putting everyone in position, calling the right plays, and keeping the Loins' WRs in check.

Bad Things:

- Carlos Rodgers DID SOMETHING?!?! Yeah...way to go Carlos. Way to do something when it doesn't matter at all and you're in a 3-deep prevent zone defense against a team you know has to throw the ball. You're a real good CB...on your way to the Pro Bowl. Nice headbutt on the ball in the 1st quarter. Don't look up and catch it...it's much cooler to run towards it with your head down and then get praised by the commentators for making a good play, when it was a total accident.(BUM!)

- Running game was good, but it really could be better. The patchwork offensive-line is making it real hard to run right, so teams are stacking against the left. If we play a good defense, we're going to have a hard time running the ball.

- And speaking of the running game, why is Clinton Portis the most overrated RB in the league. He's always trying to compare himself to LT, but he's only about 1/3rd of what LT is. What the hell was that fumble?!?!?!? Protect the ball you bum! And, I don't know what it is about Portis, but he cannot stay on his feet for anything. He had a run in the 3rd quarter that SHOULD have been house, but he got breathed on and tripped up. LT (and the other premier backs) would have broken that tackle and taken it to the barn. Clinton Portis is OVERRATED, and I'd like to see him traded in the off-season. Too bad they don't consult with me.

- Fox's commmentators have gotten 100x worse than previous years. I hate it when we get their D team for our games because they never have any idea what they are talking about. They were ragging on Shaun Suisum about missing an FG early in the game, but fail to mention that he's only missed 2 this year, both from over 48 yards. Sheesh...give the guy a break and know what the hell you're talking about.

- We're out of WRs. At some point, we had 32432 receivers, but now we have none. If Randle El and Moss can't go next week, our week 6 starters will be James Thrash and Keenan McCardell (or Reche Caldwell). Wow...we really need one of our guys to get healthy here.

- Ok James Thrash...I know you're excited about touching the ball since you haven't touched it in 4 years, but for God's sake, PROTECT THE DAMN BALL!! Thank goodness for Rock Cartwright, who, if they ever cut, I might boycott.

Ok...I'm out of bad stuff. Well, I have more, but they are pretty petty and I'd be stretching a lot. So, I guess that's it...Nice win, too bad it was against a bad team. Let's see how we fare against Green Bay next week.

Week 5 Cuts:
1. Brandon Lloyd (he's just going to stay up here until they cut him)
2. Carlos Rodgers (he's STILL the worst corner in the NFL)
3. Clinton Portis (for being overrated)

Week 5 Game Balls:
1. Derek Frost (quietly booting it like 48 yards a pop; can't pooch though)
2. Jason Campbell
3. Skins O-Line (for being banged up, they are doing a good job)
4. COOOOOOOOOOLEY! (because, what list is complete without him)
