Week 3 Wrap-Up

Ok, so I've finally calmed down, and I think I can speak rationally about week 3's game against the Giants.

First of all, I'd like to take this time to remind everyone about what I've been saying since before the season even started...We're not a good team. Everyone and their grandmother seemed to want to start the bandwagon up after we beat the terrible Dolphins, and the Eagles with McNabb playing the worst football of his career.

Now, I know the Eagles scored like 51 on Detroit this past weekend, which makes me a bit more pleased about our performance, but really...Philly beat themselves when they played us. They had 2 TD passes: 1 was dropped, and the second was a bad McNabb throw. Either way...Even Steve Czaban from Sports Talk 980's Sports Reporters was drinking the kool-aid this past week. In fact, I'm pretty sure he told his entire listening audience that the Skins were going to kill the Giants and that they should bet their entire bankroll on the game.

Hey...here's a paper towel to wipe that egg off your face Steve.

Maybe people will listen to me now when I say that we're still a bad team. Our defense is actually NOT very good...We have good safeties and good linebackers. But our front 4 can't generate ANY pressure, and our corners can't cover anyone! They all looked bad in the second half of the Giants game...even my beloved Springs. And, for the love of god, please get Carlos Rodgers off my team!! He is SO BAD!! I'm convinced that a blind chimp holding his johnson could do a better job covering receivers than Rodgers. Cut him, bench him, trade him, injure him...DO SOMETHING! JUST GET RID OF HIM!!

More notes...Santana Moss had a small case of the dropsies again this game, but I think he fixed it in the second quarter...but it's still a bit disconcerting. Sean Taylor, aka the Human Missle, is an amazing specimen. He comes from off the screen and splatters receivers and running backs alike, leaving them as roadkill on the turf. However, there is a downside...he's perpetually out of position! He over-commits constantly because he's trying to murder the ball carrier. Didn't LaVar do the same thing and they ran him out of town? Maybe, just maybe someone should go sit with him and teach him when to use the hit stick, when to press square and dive, and when the just run up to the man and tackle him! Sheesh...it's gross.

Offensively, we blew it in the second half...but that's going to happen. I mean, I think Gibbs got to conservative, but he always did that. It's just, he used to have a running game to support that kind of playcalling, and he just doesn't have that anymore, especially with the entire right side of the O-line decimated.

The coaching in this game was terrible...I"m sorry, it was. I'm the biggest homer you know, and I love Gibbs, but he's really done a bad job in my opinion. That stuff at the end of the game was ridiculous. Here's the thing...it's 4th and goal. there's :40 on the clock. That's a normal play clock...you can take your time, call a play, huddle, and then execute. Do they do that? No! Jason rushes them to the line, and the run the SAME PLAY that the Giants just stopped. What's worse is that Clinton Portis, the franchise running-back, was on the bench. Now, there's no way to know if he'd have scored...but, hell...if he was in the game, we wouldn't have been asking, "Why wasn't Ladell Betts in the game."

I know the game should have never come down to that ending, but it did...and in that spot, good teams get it done. They don't have blunders like that. Why wasn't Joe in Campbell's ear yelling at him to take his time and to call a play and huddle. There was NO NEED TO RUSH! Seriously...that was just bad coaching and bad clock management. New England, Indy, Hell...even Philly, would have handled that situation like it should be. Tom Brady would have called a huddle, and executed a play called in from the sidelines, instead of hurrying to run the same exact play.

Ok...rant over. I just want to say that we're not the worst team in the NFL, but we are not a good team by any means. We are not a playoff team...we're a 7-9/6-10 team AT BEST! And, once we stop playing the Miami's of the league, we're going to see it come to pass.

Week 3 Cuts (you can always assume Brandon Lloyd is on this list):
1. Carlos Rodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Clinton Portis (nice fumble...probably Jason's fault too, but I like him, so...)
3. Coach Joe.

Week 3 Game Balls
1. Derek Frost (getting NO credit, but he's actually become a good punter)
2. Shaun Suisum (I know he missed one, but the commentators jinxed him...he's still money)
3. Antwaan Randle El (for being the only one to show up in the 2nd half)

56 pts.

First time I ever gambled on sports, and I pick the LIONS to cover the six pt spread.

Cover, they did not.

Oh don't get your panties in a bunch, I put up $10 to enter a football pool, it's not like I put $2K on the Lions to cover.

There was a kid who put $2K on the Eagles to beat the Skins the week prior that sat at my $1/$2 NL table in AC.

Wow, was that guy in a bad mood.

player of the week: Rocky McIntosh .. is it me or does this kid really look good?

Worst decision: the final drive, Campbell is moving the ball down the field well .. We get the ball down to the 2 yard line with plenty of time and we just go brain dead. Why does Campbell waste a play on first down and clock the ball? Why not run it. Why on 3rd and 4th down do we pack it in, scream we are running the ball and then run the same play twice in a row?? Spread the damn field, spread their defense, then run it. A lot about this game frustrated me, but in particular it was our inability to control the game once we had a decent lead.
